Link your Tree to Your DNA Results on Ancestry

I would like to ask anyone who has done DNA testing at ancestry to link a tree to their test. You can make multiple trees at ancestry which means that you can create a DNA tree. This means that your whole family tree does not have to be made public.

What I did is create a DNA tree which is now linked to my results. In doing that my DNA matches can quickly see if we have surnames or locations in common. It actually didn’t take too long and it makes my results more meaningful.

I would also encourage people to take this test. Ancestry’s DNA pool is growing and it is a wonderful way to find cousins, who knows they may have a picture of one of your ancestors that you don’t. Happy spitting everyone!

    Hi Patricia! I’ve found my birth mother! Her name was Marjorie Regan from Etobicoke, Ontario! Her father was Richard Stephens Regan, and her mother’s family name was Selves!
    After the Holidays, I’ll fill out the Family Tree but with FTDNA.
    I didn’t renew my membership with Ancestry but you could still see the result of my daily Tree, I think!
    My father was James Edward Madden, who was living also in Etobicoke, but he was born in Philadelphia moved to Toronto with his parents at the age of seven! His father Daniel Madden accepted a job with CPR, so they had to move to Canada! I wish you a very Happy New Year, Health, and Good Luck with your Story! Nicole, perhaps I should try the 52 stories too! 😊

      Wow! That is incredible that you were able to discover your parents!
      This should give new meaning to your DNA matches!

    Thank you Patricia! Did you get the result of my Family Tree on Ancestry, or FTDNA?
    I’m still wondering how come I would be related to your family?
    I am also 100% European, 44% Irish, 38% British, etc a few % of others!! My family on both sides were mostly from Ontario, and USA! The grandparents were from Europe!
    My Great Great Grandfather was Thomas Whiting who was married to Margaret Shea! This is on my mother side! My Great Grandfather was Stephen Joseph Regan, and my Grandfather was Richard Stephen Regan who was married to Eliza Ada Sophia Selves! My mother was Marjorie Regan!
    My father was James Edward Madden, his father was Daniel Madden,( my Grandfather ), who married Latha Iona Blauser,( my Grandmother! ) My great grandfather was Patrick Madden who was married to Annie Carroll.
    My family Tree is not completed but I have more names than I had before for sure!! I am lucky after so many years that I was able to find out so much info’s! It is because of my nephew who is a Genealogist, Glenn Swarbrick, the son of my half-sister Joan Madden! He lives in England now, but he was born in Toronto! He’s the one who helped me so much, I don’t think I would have been able to find out so soon about my bio Family!!

      Hi Nicole, I am so happy to hear of your success in finding your family.

      The connection between our families could be through the Regan family. Can you tell me a bit more about them? That name has come up a few times on my mother’s side as a Regan family and the Stewart-McMahon families seem to often to end up in the same place. My Stewart family was in Dundas, Wentworth Co., Grey Co. and then later moved to Minnesota. Does your Regan family have the same pattern?

      I haven’t had a look at the DNA match but you have sparked my interest!

        I have a few McMahon as matches too! I have to check about the Regan family! I know that there is a William Regan New York State!
        I have to go out soon, I’ll get back to you about this!

    I had my fathers DNA done several years ago, he has since died. At that time we used FTDNA, I would love to share my DNA results with Ancestry.com. As we only have 1 match with all of the people in the FTDNA database! Please let me know if there is any way I can put the test results in the ancestry DNA database!! We have hit a brick wall!!

      I am in the same boat with a couple of my relatives. From what I have heard ancestry will probably not allow uploads. I recommend using Gedmatch and you can also upload to My Heritage for free. Living DNA will also be allowing uploads in the future but there may be a few involved.
