About Me

IMG_0900

Ok, so you want to know more — I am ‘The Mom’ who has dragged her husband and children all over Canada with the “It’s a family vacation”, “It’ll be so fun!” knocking on doors of far-flung relatives, sending my husband off to Staples to copy a document or photograph (long before the Flip-Pal scanner ever thought of being invented) and watching as my kids hunting for frogs in cemeteries. This has been going on for years and my family is very cautious about any upcoming trips we are taking.

My genealogy is heavily Canadian based. Between my husband and myself, our ancestors lived in almost every Province in Canada. I have been able to trace my lines back to Ireland, England and Scotland. My DNA has agreed with these locations – oh ya, I love DNA and have tested anyone who will stick out their tongue or spit for me! Do we match? Check my Gedmatch A696837

I am an avid learner and attend courses, webinars and conferences whenever I can. I have served as the VP of the Grande Prairie Branch of the Alberta Genealogical Society as well as secretary and newsletter editor.

As I have been researching for twenty years I have learned and discovered numerous resources which I blog about.

Thank you for reading and I wish you the best of luck as you explore your own genealogy!

    Hello Patricia,

I found your gedmatch number on google when I searched for the name Quigley and the word gedmatch. I cannot prove it, as yet, but I am very sure that the name Quigley figures in my pedigree somewhere.
My gedmatch number is H001631. Apparently we are 6.5 generations back to a common ancestor.

My father’s family is from Sligo (Mother from Donegal). It is the Sligo side of the family where I think we have DNA in common.
My name is John Francis Burns ( 1951) .
My father was John Burns ( 1921 )
And guess what my grandfather was John Burns ( 1892 ).
However, my great grandfather was a John Conlon. He and my great grandmother, Beesy Burns did not marry. So I get my name through the female line.

I also have Moran, McCarrick, Kennedy in my pedigree.

I would be very interested to see you pedigree.

I look forward to hearing from you.
    John Burns
    Skelmersdale, near Liverpool, England
Born Sligo, but snatched from him native home at the age of ten weeks old.

p.s. if you look for my grandfather John Burns’ birth certificate, you will not find it.
You will find a birth certificate for a John Conlon though. This is my grandfather. It took me years to find it. My great aunt, Maggie Burns, registered my grandfather as John Conlon, in anticipation of this marriage taking place. It did not. But John Conlon’s name and details are there to be seen.

    Anyway, bye for now
    John

    Hello Patricia,

    Thanks for your reply.

I probably should have mentioned that I have my autosomal with MyHeritage, and also have all three test on FTDNA.

    Thanks
    John
